What's in my bag?

So I've seen this across many of the blogs I follow, and I'm always quite interested, so I thought I'd do the same! (That and it suddenly occurred to me that I hadn't planned anything to post/write about, and I took a few pictures last week with the intention of doing a post like this.)

My bag is nothing particularly special, I get very bored very quickly, and then go buy a new bag. It's from Dorothy Perkins, and I bought it late last year.

The great mound of stuff I hulk about in my bag. Now I'm looking at it like this, I realise that, yes, I carry about a lot!
From left: Jodi Picoult's 'Nineteen Minutes', water, painkillers, diary, purse, glasses case, keys, hand sanitizer, Body Shop satsuma body/hand lotion, body spray, tissues, pen, Lipsyl, mirror, chewing gum, lipstick, purse that holds my camera. (Missing from the picture because they were in my pocket: iPod touch and phone.)
I always carry around a book, because I am a book worm. I've got a bit of OCD, so hand sanitizer is a must, and the body lotion because excessive hand cleaning makes my hands horribly dry. I always wear my glasses, but I carry the case around in case, for some reason, I decide I don't want to wear them.
I've been looking for a new purse recently - one with more card space, but this does at the moment. It's quite pretty I think.
I don't actually use most of the stuff I carry around, I throw it in with thoughts of: "You never know, I MAY need it, and if I don't have it, I shall only kick myself." Needless to say, it languishes at the bottom.

What's in your bag? If you've done of these posts, I'd love it if you linked me to it, I love reading them!

Green 'Ombré' Nails.

So, this week, I wasn't planning on doing ombré nails, I thought I'd leave it for a few weeks, but I didn't know what else to do with my nails that was interesting, so I have attempted to do green ombré nails!
Before I show them to you, I must pre-warn you that they aren't as good as my blue nails but I only realised this after I had finished painting them. So they'll have to do. Also, the forefinger and the middle finger are both called 'Spring Green', the forefinger nail polish is a polish I bought a few years ago, and I think they must have changed the colour of it!

From thumb: '304 Mint Green', '290 Spring Green', '284 Emerald Green', '299 Racing Green'.

What do you think? As I say, not as good as last week's, but oh well!
Have a nice Bank Holiday Monday, even though the weather is crap!

The cost of my face.

So I was perusing through blogs yesterday, as per usual, and came across this post over at elevatormusik and subsequently Alyse's and Jennie's blogs. Quite a few bloggers at the moment have been calculating how much the entirety of their every day make up costs them, which is really quite interesting actually. And so I have decided to do the same.

Now what I wear make-up wise changes from day to day, dependant on how much time I have in the morning to get ready etc, so I've done this in two bits:
Firstly, what I wear every day:

And secondly, what I add on to that if I have the time:

In the first picture:
Avon SuperExtend Mascara: £8.50
Collection 2000 Illuminating Touch Concealer - £4.99
Collection 2000 Fast Stroke Eyeliner - £2.99
No7 Protect and Perfect Lipcare - £9
Barry M lipstick - £4.49
= £29.97

And the second:
Avon Calming Effects Skin Revival Foundation - £10.50
Rimmel Multi-Tonal Powder Blush - £5.19
Natural Collection Pressed Powder - £1.99
Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Liner - £3.99
Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil - £2.99
No7 Stay Perfect Smoothing & Brightening Eye Base - £7.75
Sleek Makeup I-Divine 12 Piece Shadow Storm - £6.49
= £38.90

Totalling = £68.87.

When I first saw this, I was little bit surprised, as it's quite a lot of money for a penniless student such as myself, but then I pondered for a while and realised that in actual fact, it's not a lot at all. Considering that - with the exception of the mascara - I'll have these products for six months - or more - meaning I'm only spending about 40p a day, which is nothing! (At least, I think it equalled 40p, but my maths is shocking, if anyone can correct me, please do!)

I'd be quite interested to know if you've done this, link me to the post if you have :) Oh and check out the posts of the three girls I mentioned! :)

Weekend Wishlist

01. Dorothy Perkins Acidwash skinny jeans. 02. Dorothy Perkins Mid wash curve skinny jeans. 03. Topshop bike tee. 04. New Look Lace-Up Wedges. 05. Topshop Skin Glow in Light. 06. Topshop Teapot ring.

This looks like a bit of a boring wishlist in terms of colour this week does it? But I'm after a pair of jeans because my beloved pair have got a hole in them, and Dorothy Perkins are the only place I can buy jeans that fit well, so I may buy a couple of pairs at once. The bike tee is just so cute, I feel like I need it in my life. I, crazily, haven't got a pair of wedges yet, which is mad seeing as I love them, so I think I shall get these, they're gorgeous! I've heard good things about the Topshop Skin Glow, and the teapot ring is just so cute!

What shops have you found that do well-fittingly, reasonably priced jeans?

Avon SuperExtend Mascara

Good evening! I'm sorry this was so late, I originally wanted to post this about 6pm, but I was at the pub for a quick drink this afternoon, and didn't get around to it. I'm sure it makes no difference whatsoever to any of you anyway, but thought I'd state it!

I don't see many mascara reviews, or many Avon reviews (maybe I'm following the wrong people?) so I thought I'd share with you a review of the mascara I'm currently using :)

Avon's SuperExtend Mascara, which costs £8.50, you can view it here if you so wish :)

Now, before I carry on, I will admit, I wasn't expecting too much from this mascara - there were quite a few bad reviews of it on the website and I only bought it because there was a free foundation going with it (which is fabulous) and I had all but run out of the mascara I was using previously. But lo and behold, I love it. It's not too gloopy, it doesn't smell awful, it doesn't create spider lashes, the brush is nice, it's brilliant!

Before, when I didn't have any make-up on, I may have had a little remains from yesterday's make-up that I couldn't remove, but nothing much really.

And after! I think it works really well. I think I've got quite short eyelashes - although my mother always argues with me about this - and I think this makes them much longer.

So there you have it. I definitely reccommend it.
PS. Ignore my weird eyes, they're all funny colours and I have a weird brown fleck!

Make a wish!

So, I don't know about you, but whenever I think about a giveaway, I never actually expect to win. I don't have amazing luck - nor amazingly bad luck, but you know, it's kinda average. So, I was very surprised when on Sunday, I opened up my Tumblr, saw I had a message (a rare occasion anyway) and found this:

Brilliant! Now, Roseberrystore is the tumblr of this Etsy shop, and she often blogs pictures about cute things she's found on Etsy, or the things she sells. Last month some time, on her tumblr, she posted a giveaway for these beauties, and I immediately fell in love, how cute are they?!
They arrived today, and they're even nicer in real life!

I got five different ones, all with their own cute background, and I'm not sure if you can really see the individual charms from my crappy photo skills, but there's a peace sign, a skull, a wish bone, a key, and a star. All on different coloured threads, and I love them all. Especially the star, as although it's not gold, it has a gold thread, and when I wear it I shall feel like I'm paying homage to my favourite TV star, Rachel Berry. (Do not judge me.)

This lovely message is at the bottom of each bracelet. I think it's a brilliant idea!

I decided to wear the wish bone one first, isn't it pretty!

You should all go check out both her Tumblr and Etsy store - she has some really gorgeous stuff, like Domino rings, and Vintage English Street Atlas Badges :)

What d'you think?

Essential start of your day: Breakfast and brushing my teeth!
Favourite Colour: Dark purple, red, blue and green.
Gold or Silver: Silver.
Height: 5'2
Instruments I play: None :( I wish I could play violin!
Job Title: Student. Is that a job title? I don't really have a job.

Live: Nottinghamshire.
Mum's name: Maria
Nickname: I don't have one!
One wish: That I get into Middlesex University with the grades I need!

Dan: Supposing you do still love them?
Alice: You don't leave.
(From 'Closer'. Favourite movie ever.)
Right or left handed:Left.
Siblings: None.
Time you wake up: It depends. If I have college, 7am. If not, about 10am.
Underwear: Depends on the outfit!
Vegetables you dislike: Mushrooms and cauliflower!
What makes you run late: Everything. I'm always running late. I presume I can do things faster than I actually can, and am always ten minutes late. Ridiculous. I hate lateness!
X-rays you've had done: None! I think.
Yummy food you make: Chocolate chip coffee cake!
Zoo Animal: Hmm. Meercats or the big cats - especially Lions and Panthers!

Sorry for the lack of a quality post, I like posting something every day, but quite busy this week because it's my last week of college (ever, argh!!)

'Ombré' Nails.

Good evening!
Whilst I was avoiding doing any revision yesterday afternoon, I decided to paint my nails in an 'Ombré' style. Now, I'm presuming this is the right word, but I'm not sure, hence the ''. I did blue because I know I have enough colours to do it right, I think. Does the transition from shade to shade work?
Incidentally, in the pictures, my thumb and forefinger look practically the same colour. They are not. That is my camera being stupid. In reality they're very different colours.
All Barry M. From left (thumb) to right: '306 Blueberry', '295 Turquoise', '294 Cyan Blue', '291 Cobalt Blue', '292 Navy'.

Even though I painted them less than 24 hours ago, yes, I have already chipped one of my nails. AND I used a topcoat - the one used in this post. Clever me!
That aside, what do you think?

I know I usually do 'Music Monday' today, but I wanted to show you my nails! I might post music tomorrow instead :)

Change of name!

Just to let you all know I am now 'Sirens and Bells', and no longer 'Rocketshipinthesky' as I got bored. I chose 'Rocketship....' when I first got this blog, and at that point I was only using the blog so I could read other people's.
So my email address is now:
and my formspring is now:

I've changed the links in my sidebar, so they all link up to the relevant things.

PS. If you can guess whereabouts I got my name from, kudos to you!!
PPS. Can you all read my title? I don't know if the 'Sirens' word is illegible? Let me know!

Week in Photos.

01. Last week Starbucks were holding a 'Happy Hour' where Frappuccino's were half price between 3pm-5pm. Brilliant for my taste buds, not so much for my waistline, but oh well. The Frappuccino pictured is Caramel Cream. And yummy. 02. When buying the Frappuccino's, I thought it only fair to buy caramel waffles too. 03. The sky was really pretty one night last week, but of course, flash decided to ruin what could have been a nice picture. 04. I was on a walk, saw this beautiful house, and decided I needed a picture of it. Some-one walked past me as I took the picture, and looked at me as if I was a stalker, so I ran away quickly. 05. There was a storm going on as I took this picture outside my window, and I literally just missed some lightning. Typical! Clearly my photographing skills need brushing up. It was pissing it down with rain too, but that doesn't show either. 06. This is the ceiling of one of the buildings in the city centre, and I thought it was magnificent. Every time I go in there, I marvel at the beautiful ceiling. I may have to do a post dedicated to it, I have quite a few pictures...

How's your week been?

(I hope this posts properly, it messed up a bit as I tried to publish it!)

What Soap and Glory goodies shall I buy??

Completely forgot to mention this in my previous post, but I want to talk to you about Soap and Glory.
I, to the complete surprise of many people, have never used Soap and Glory products. I know, I know. But I want this to change! When pay day rears its beautiful head, I plan on buying some S&G products, but, I don't know which. I have no idea in the slightest what  I should buy. So, I'm asking for your help, lovely people!
What's your favourite Soap and Glory products, and what do you recommend?? I don't actually need anything, so any suggestions will go down a treat :)
PS. I know I posted this yesterday, but I accidentally deleted like the twit I am. It's all good though, I had it saved as a Tumblr draft :)

Music Monday.

Kings of Leon and Lykke Li - Knocked Up (Rodeo remix)

Originally a Kings of Leon song, I found this while youtubing Lykke Li songs, and instantly fell in love. The love the original, and Lykke Li's cover, but together, it is so much better.
Here  is the youtube link.
PS. Lykke Li is pronounced 'Lick-ee Lee.' I spent months pronouncing it 'Like-ee Lie' but I heard her say her name in an interview, and found out how wrong I was!

Barry M Nail Effects.

Oh Barry M, you marvelous company. It's no secret that I am a fan of Barry M - and I own almost every single nail polish they have created. So when they brought out 'Nail Effects' I was immediately drawn to it, and bought it promptly. And then it sat, forlornly (I would imagine, although I'm not entirely sure how nail polishes feel, ahem,) in my nail polish box  for weeks. And weeks. And I have only just picked up and used it. For a while now, I've intended to wear it and review it, but I've just subconsciously avoided it. But no longer. This aftenoon, I have finally used it!

As you can see, I'm quite messy when it comes to nail polish, and I'm left handed, so my left hand is always a bit dodgy! I used Rimmel's 60 Seconds in '825 Sky High'. It looks greener in the pictures than in real life, in reality, it's more bluey/turquoisey :) And of course, I used a top coat, otherwise it'll chip away very quickly. I've always found Barry M's Basecoat/topcoat/nail hardner to be very good :)
I have come to the conclusion that Nail Effects may be my new favourite nail polish, it's brilliant. I love watching it do its magic as well, because, well, I'm easily amused! What do you think?

Weekend Wishlist

01. Topshop Knitted Pointelle Kimono Shrug. 02. Lisette Bird Ring at ASOS. 03. H&M navy striped skirt. 04. H&M pink floral skirt. 05. ASOS Blue Malcolm Suede Punch Out Brogue. 06. ASOS Green Marky Suede Traditional Brogues. 07. ASOS Purple Marky Suede Traditional Brogues.

The things I have been coveting for the past fortnight. How cute is that ring! I'm buying the Converses soon, I have a pair of pale pink ones, but they're starting to fall apart, and I don't like pink much anymore. I bought them in a pink fad I went through when I was about 12, and they got replaced by the same colour, and now I want black ones instead :)
I've been at the gym this afternoon, so I'm going to keep this brief, I've not been to the gym in almost a year, and I think I may have a heart attack.
PS. How slow is rowing 1000m in 6:30 minutes? I did this today, but I have no idea how to gauge it...
PPS. Are any of you watching Eurovision tonight? I'm unashamedly excited!

Drowning in a mound of college work and exams.

Sorry! I've been in a bit MIA this week haven't I? Have a picture of my tired face - my flash on the picture before made my eyes go funny, I went to rub them and the camera went off again! This reflects my current mood! I like my nail polish though, it's Barry M's 'cobalt blue' :)
I keep meaning to blog everyday - or virtually every day anyway, but it's difficult at the moment, as I'm in my last few weeks ever of college, so we're getting mountains of work - this is on top of the revision I need to be doing for my exams. And I work as well - it's only for 2 hours, but when it's Mon-Fri it takes time out because I can't sit and revise solidly when I get home from college - because of work. I've had three mock exams this week which is just a nuisance, I cannot wait for the weekend, I'm going to just rest!
I'm moaning so much, boo me!! I'll stop. I should be able to blog more once this week is over, I've got just over half a dozen posts that I plan on doing in the not-so-distant future, andddd I might possibly do a bit of shopping this weekend as a 'well done for doing all your work' as I never do everything, but this week I am!
I shall leave you with the song I've been playing non-stop this week: Johnny Flynn - Barnacled Warship. I'm a massive fan of his, and this song is just brilliant.

Ps. I returned that top in the end, after the third day of picking it up to wear and then discarding it, I decided enough was enough!
Hope you're all well.

Week in Photos.

By week I mean fortnight, but that's just semantics.

01. RSC have created special stamps for their 50th Anniversary, with the faces and a quote from some of their best known productions - Midsummer's Night Dream, Twelfth Night, Hamlet (seen above), King Lear, Henry VI and Romeo and Juliet. I was thinking that the stamps would include a stamp of each of the six available but oh no, I was mistaken. I, instead, got six with the delectable David Tennant's face on. Not that I'm complaining, David Tennant is my favourite actor, and very dishy. I don't actually plan on using them, in fact, they're stuck to my wall at the moment! It's a very aesthetically pleasing stamp for me, not only because of the combination of David Tennant and the Bard, but because I like the scrawly writing used too. 02. I have nomming Tesco's Finest Lemon Curd yogurts this week, I am a big citrusy fan, and it's a nice dessert to eat when it's warm, as it's light - I'm not a big chocolate eater in summer as it's too heavy, so this is perfect. 03. I have also been slurping Costa's Iced Vanilla Latte's, they're delicious! I usually drink Starbuck's Caramel Macchiato's, but I pass a Costa's on my way back from work every day, so I can't resist popping in there and buying one. The coffee taste in the Costa's drink isn't as prominent as the Starbucks one, which I prefer, because I'm not a big coffee drinker, I couldn't drink a Macchiato every day, but the Iced Latte's are perfect! 04. I have been avoiding revision and essays by spending my time procrastinating on Tumblr, as per usual. My addiction to that site is ridiculous. 05. I tried to take a picture of the rain outside my window yesterday, but it had stopped raining by the time I had got the chance. 06. I took a picture of my eye for a post I was thinking of doing (EDIT: I have already done said post, here), but then was perplexed by the brown fleck. It's not so noticeable here, but as well as the fleck, I have a ring of green surrounding my pupil, it's quite odd. I may even do a post on it, I like eyes.

How's your week been?

Saturday, 7 May 2011

Where the blue of the sea meets the sky, and the big yellow sun leads me home.

So today I think I may have sort of mastered the tricky little buggers that are: eyeliner flicks. Real emphasis on the sort of.

You can see it on the right much more than on the left in this picture, but it's sort of on its way there. Usually my flicks are ridiculous - almost completely vertical, or bent, or just a thin whisper of eyeliner that looks awful.

You can't see it here as much as I hoped, my camera focused on my eye, not the eyeliner, so it's sort of blurry, but it's a close-up.

I shall carry on trying to do better eyeliner flicks to show you, I hope I'll get better with practice! How do you perfect your flicks?
